The Formula — What Key Ingredient Does

Petrolatum (1st ingredient) — Petroleum jelly is the benchmark occlusive: it doesn't moisturize on its own, but it creates a semi-permeable barrier that traps water already in the lip tissue. When Glycerin and Honey Extract draw moisture to the lip surface, Petrolatum prevents that moisture from evaporating — this is the actual mechanism behind long-lasting hydration. No plant wax or vegetable oil achieves the same occlusion efficiency at this concentration.

Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil — Castor oil has the highest viscosity of any common vegetable oil and an exceptionally high refractive index — the optical property that creates the "wet lips" gloss effect. The shine you see on lips after applying this balm is castor oil's work. It also acts as a humectant, drawing moisture from the air to the lip surface, and its ricinoleic acid content has mild anti-inflammatory properties useful for chapped, irritated lips.

Honey Extract — Natural humectant with hygroscopic properties; draws moisture from the environment into lip skin. Antibacterial and antioxidant polyphenols protect chapped or cracked lip tissue. The honey fragrance note you detect is partly the Honey Extract, partly the Methyl Hydrogenated Rosinate (a resin ester with a subtle sweet, balsamic scent that also improves balm adhesion to lip skin).
